New Patients at Memorial Drive Chiropractic and Massage

What to Expect
If you’ve ever gone to a social event where you didn’t know anyone, you know how uncomfortable that can make you feel. Our goal is to eliminate every shred of apprehension and make you feel at home. New members often remark how comfortable they feel in our office. That’s good, because our goal is to offer state-of-the-art chiropractic care in a comfortable surrounding.
Since chiropractic care involves a series of visits, with each one building on the ones before, it’s important that our relationship can go the distance. We’ve found that one of the best ways to have successful patient relationships is to explain everything in advance. No surprises!
You’ll find plenty of convenient parking and a well-lit parking lot. You’ll be greeted by name when you enter our office and given a short tour to get you acquainted with our facilities.
If you’ve already completed your admitting paperwork found online, great! If not, after doing so the doctor will review it quickly and then meet with you to discuss your specific concerns.
Dr. Wagemakers will then guide you through an engaging conversation about how your body responds to stress. Using the analogy of a “bear chase,” he’ll help you understand how your nervous system reacts to various stressors and how this affects your overall health and specific symptoms.
From here, a comprehensive assessment will take place including:
- A detailed health history discussion
- Insight Millennium scanning technology that objectively measures:
- Heart rate variability (showing how your body handles stress)
- Segmental EMG (measuring muscle tension patterns)
- Autonomic nervous system function (evaluating functions you’re not consciously aware of)
- Neurological examination
- Physical assessment including X-rays if warranted
- In some cases, dietary review
These advanced, non-invasive scans provide a clear picture of your nervous system’s current adaptive capacity—essentially showing “how close the bear is” and how well your body is responding to stress. This technology helps us understand the root causes of your discomfort rather than just addressing symptoms.
In some cases, X-rays are necessary to further define your unique situation. Allow 30-45 minutes for your first visit. The purpose of your consultation with the doctor is to discuss your health goals and see if chiropractic care can enhance your body’s natural adaptive abilities. If it looks promising, our thorough examination will help identify the underlying causes of your challenges, not just the symptoms you’re experiencing.
If appropriate and comfortable for you, Dr. Wagemakers may provide your first adjustment during this initial visit to begin helping your nervous system function more effectively right away.
On your report visit, we explain what we found and how we may be able to help you. After we study your health history and correlate our physical examination findings, including your Insight Millennium scan results, we’ll make recommendations designed to help you get and keep your health. We call this the Report of Findings.
During this visit, Dr. Wagemakers will review your scan results with you, showing you objective measurements of your nervous system function and explaining how these readings relate to your symptoms and overall well-being. These visual representations help you understand how your body is currently adapting to stress, where improvements can be made and how it changes over time.
This second visit is usually attended within 48 hours of your first adjustment or visit. It just depends on your unique situation. This two-visit approach accomplishes several things:
- Reduces the length of your first visit
- Gives us time to correlate our findings
- Avoids overloading you with too much information
- Allows you time to experience your first adjustment and formulate any questions you want answered.
At the end of this visit, you should feel comfortable knowing the status of your nervous system health, how chiropractic care can enhance your adaptive capacity, how long it may take, and what our commitments and your commitments are to achieve optimal results.
After the investment of time needed on the first and second visits, many patients become concerned that every visit will be of equal length. In a word: no. A typical visit may require just a few, highly-focused minutes. But don’t think the brevity of a regular visit lessens its value! With the groundwork laid, we can quickly assess your nervous system function, provide precise adjustments, and get you on your way.
Like a regular workout at the gym, each visit builds on the ones before. Miss a visit and we can lose the momentum necessary to make the needed changes in your nervous system’s adaptive capacity.
We perform periodic re-examinations with the Insight Millennium technology to objectively measure your progress. These comparative scans allow us to see improvements in your nervous system function that you might not yet feel and help us refine your care plan as needed.
We recognize your time is valuable. We do everything possible to run on time and minimize the impact on your busy life while still providing the care your nervous system needs to function at its best.
